As relief efforts are underway in Myanmar (formerly Burma), you can help provide critical aid to families who have been left homeless by the recent cyclone.

Campus Crusade for Christ's humanitarian aid ministry, Global Aid Network (GAiN), is on the scene in Myanmar working to provide urgently needed assistance. A report from GAiN describes what so many are facing:

"Cyclone Nargis represents the complete destruction of people's emotional, physical, and social lives. GAiN has begun a strategy that takes on a holistic perspective to helping people rebuild their lives."

Immediately after the cyclone, GAiN and trusted partners within Myanmar mobilized to reach the hardest hit areas. As people like you reached out to provide urgently needed aid to victims of this disaster, desperate families received food, clean water, simple bedding, and other critical necessities. However, as the above report makes clear, so much more needs to be done. As efforts continue to meet immediate needs, GAiN is expanding this outreach to partner with communities as they begin to rebuild from the devastation.

"A senior GAiN [staff member has] obtained an audience with a senior minister of the government. Agreements are in place to allow GAiN to assume the leadership of helping six villages still in a desperate situation, three weeks following the storm. GAiN will provide immediate relief items such as food, water, shelter, and medicines. GAiN has organized basic emotional relief training from volunteer teams. This will be expanded to include more in-depth counseling support and emotional relief in the future Architecture plans of homes have been signed off and building will commence within the next couple of weeks. Another set of architectural plans have been signed off and GAiN will commence the building of a school in each of the six villages to be completed within the next few months. GAiN will also install an ergonomic water tank and filtration system that can provide enough clean water for the whole village."

Hundreds of volunteers (almost all from churches in Myanmar) have been trained to assist in these relief efforts. And as the above report shares, GAiN is already working in cooperation with government officials.

In each of the six villages GAiN has been put in charge of, teams will be working to meet the needs of 5,000 people! That means helping at least 30,000 people with food, fresh water, shelter, and other supplies (simple bedding, clothes, etc.).

Each food pack (costing $20, including shipping and distribution) includes enough food for a family for three to four days; teams plan to revisit these same families to offer more help every few days, building relationships and sharing Christ's love. In addition, teams are distributing "Women's Packs" (containing everything from soap and a toothbrush to underwear) and "Children's Packs" (containing diapers, some baby medicine, etc.); each of these costs just $5.

With so many men, women, and children still struggling to recover from the complete destruction brought on by the cyclone, would you be willing to help reach out to share with them the hope and compassion of Christ?

Any amount-perhaps $40 that would cover the costs of food for two families for three to four days, or possibly $400 to help even more families with food, water, basic hygiene, etc.—would be such a blessing. Clicking on the "Give Now" button above will ensure that your gift reaches cyclone victims as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your support and prayers.
